Starting a blog

I don't know if any of you have blogs out there but it is a common thing.  A lot of people will use a website to run their blog.  It handles the layout and content in a way that all they have to do is fill in a text box and they are good to go.

Personally, I want more control over my blog.  I want a blog where I have a starting point, but everything is customizable for me.  I spent 4 years as a web developer, mostly doing front-end work.  So I am familiar with building a website.  I wanted to make one where I control the content.

As of this writing, I am using a default layout and theme for my blog.  I plan on changing that once I learn more about design.  I am a software developer but I want to design the layouts for my apps and websites.  Only problem is I don't know how to do that. I will be learning how to do that in the future.  I will probably write about that on here.

If nothing else, this blog is for me to talk about my life.  I really want to use it to replace Facebook.  I am on Twitter, but even Twitter can get loaded with advertisements if you go to their site or use their app.  So I made this blog so I could post about cool tech things I am learning, or about experiences with my family.
